Strauchs comments on the ignorance of many prison officials, saying "Most people do not know how a prison or jail is created, that's why no one has ever paid attention to it. How many people know they're built with the same kind of PLC utilised in centrifuges? "
Exploiting Programmable Logic Controllers - Programmable logic controllers are small computers which can be programmed to control many different things. John Strauchs, a security advisor and engineer, says that the same vulnerabilities in these systems could be employed as exploits within the prison system. Strauchs plans to cover the subject at the DefCon hacker conference next week in Las Vegas.
Strauchs, that themselves designed or provided consultation on the electronic security systems used in many prisons, says that the systems take advantage of programmable logic controllers to control the locks on cells along with other doors in the prisons. Stuxnet exploited the PLCs from the Iranian plants. Strauchs comments on the ignorance of many prison officials, saying "Most people do not know how a prison or jail is created, that's why no one has ever paid attention to it. How many people know they're built with the same kind of PLC utilised in centrifuges? "
Exploiting Programmable Logic Controllers - Programmable logic controllers are small computers which can be programmed to control many different things. Two specific models involving PLCs, made by Siemens, were the specific locates of Stuxnet; a very advanced section of malware found last yr that manipulated PLCs to be able to disregard legitimate commands being provided for them and replace them with malicious commands.
